“I hope that I can start a new life ‘here’”

Subjective wellbeing in a place

When I went to Lebanon, the image I had of Lebanon in my memory was broken. I lived all my childhood with it, with the songs of Marcel Khalifa and so on.1 Turkey was a strange country; it was just working, work, work, and many tragic events so it could not become a home [waṭan]. Especially because I was without a permanent place of residence. I mean I was always moving between Antakya and Rehanli. Thus I did not feel that … but now, I am trying so that ‘here’ [Germany] becomes home [waṭan]. That is enough.
